There must be millions of touristic photos of Venice, but the Venice of Google Street View – for obvious reasons – is limited to a few highways, parking lots and harbor warehouses.

Ben Fry has mapped all the streets in the USA. excluding all other information.
It is interesting to see Alaska and Hawaii are the only states without enough roads to outline their form. Everywhere else it appears that the infrastructure can stand in for landscape.
Love it when people are this rigorous about mapping.

Abandoned Village of Ukivok on King Island. Abandoned for nearly four decades, Ukivok is one of Alaska’s ghost villages hovering precariously on a rocky cliff facing the Bering Sea on King Island. Remains of village buildings are perched on poles standing eerily on the unforgiving terrain.
